Rajputi Poshak Near Me

If you are searching for a Rajputi poshak near you, we have three shops you can walk into. Two are in Jaipur: Shop 7 on Khatipura Road in Jhotwara, opposite Goverdhan Sky, and 210 Swami Vihar in Sanganer. The third is in Jodhpur, in BJS Colony off Link Road, near Ramdev Vatika and the RTO office. All three open at 10 in the morning and shut at 8 at night. You can come in, ask to see a bari poshak, sit with four of them spread across your knees, and leave without buying. That happens most days.

If you are typing this from Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner, Bhopal, Indore, Surat, Vadodara, Delhi or Mumbai, the honest answer is that there is no Grand Abhaneri counter near you. We ship across India and to 42 countries. The measuring is done on a WhatsApp video call, with one of our karigars watching from the Jaipur workshop while your mother or your sister holds the tape at your end. A good number of the poshaks that leave our door belong to women we have only ever seen on a screen. The whole method is written out further down this page so you can judge it before you commit to anything.

There is something worth saying about the phrase itself. A Rajputi poshak is not picked off a rail. The kanchli is cut to one woman's chest and shoulder, the ghaghra is set to her floor length in the mojari she will actually wear on the day, and a 24-kali skirt keeps our karigars busy for close to 38 days from the morning the cloth is chosen. So the shop nearest your house matters less than you think. What matters is who cuts the kali, whether the gota is asli chandi or a plated wire that will go dull by Gangaur, and how many weeks are left before the saat phere.

We do not rent. That disappoints some people, and we would rather say it here than three messages into a conversation. Everything below, the addresses, the fitting process, the three things we think you should check at any counter including ours, is written to be useful even if you end up buying from a shop down your own road.

## When there is no store near you

The measuring call is the part people worry about, so here is how it runs. You message the concierge on WhatsApp at +91 98290 17524 and we fix a time. Evenings suit us, because the workshop is awake anyway. You will need a second person at your end and a proper tailor's tape.

Our karigar stays on video and tells your mother or your sister where to lay it. Across the fullest part of the chest. Under the bust. The waist where you actually tie a nada, not where you would like it to sit. Hip. Shoulder to shoulder across the back. Kurti length from the shoulder point, then sleeve length, then the armhole. Last, ghaghra length from waist to floor while you stand in the mojari you mean to wear on the day. That final number is where most out-of-town orders come unstuck, because two inches of heel changes the whole fall of a [24-kali](/work/24-kali) skirt. Nine measurements, plus one still photograph of the tape lying at your waist so we can see it is snug. Twenty minutes, usually less.

Cloth is chosen on the same call. We carry it to the window and hold it in daylight, never under a tubelight, because reds lie under a tubelight. A [lal](/colour/lal) that looks like sindoor at nine at night can come out closer to maroon by morning, and the shade you agreed to at midnight is the one that has to sit against your skin at the phere.

Then the gota. If you have asked for asli chandi, it goes on the small brass scale at the end of the cutting table before a single length of it is stitched down, and that weight is written on your order sheet next to the shade number of the cloth. Ask for that sheet. Any workshop using [real silver](/category/real-silver-poshak) should be willing to put the weight in writing, and the ones that will not are telling you something.

Once shade and gota are settled the clock starts, and it is roughly 38 days to a finished poshak. Partway through, photographs reach you straight off the adda, thread still pulled taut across the frame, usually taken at whatever hour the karigar finished that panel. They are not styled. They are meant to show you the work, not sell it back to you.

If the fit needs correcting when it lands, tell us the same day. Margin is folded into the kanchli side seams for exactly this reason, so a tailor near you can take it in without touching a single gota line. Length and armhole work comes back to Jhotwara. That round trip runs about a week plus courier, which is why we ask you not to leave the order until the last month.

## What actually reaches you

Every piece leaves numbered and signed. The number goes on in pencil first, on a cloth tag pinned inside the kanchli the day it is cut, and it stays with that poshak through all 38 days and into the heritage trousseau box. Two hundred and fourteen karigars work for us across Jaipur. On a bari poshak, six or seven of them will have had their hands on the same ghaghra before it is folded, and one of them will have hemmed the odhni ki kor by lamplight, because that edge cannot be rushed and cannot be machined.

A finished 24-kali ghaghra in heavy silk, with real silver along the border, is not a light thing. It takes both arms to lift off the packing table. The first thing most brides say when they open the box on video is that they had not expected the weight. So practise. Walk the length of a room in it, sit down, stand up, take one fast turn and watch how the kalis open. Better to learn that at home than at the milni.

## Three things to check at any poshak counter

We are not the only good workshop in Rajasthan. There are old hands in Chandpole and Johari Bazaar we happily send brides to when we cannot take an order in time, and we have written about a few of them in our guide to the [best Rajputi poshak shops in Jaipur](/journal/best-rajputi-poshak-shops-jaipur). Judge us the same way you judge them.

Turn the cloth over. The reverse of a poshak tells you more than the front ever will: clean thread paths, knots properly finished, no mat of loose floats waiting to catch on a bangle. If the gota has been glued instead of stitched, the back gives it away at once. There is a stiff, faintly shiny ridge where the fabric has gone hard, and it will crack along that line inside two seasons of wear.

Press the dabka with a thumbnail. Real dabka is a fine coil and it springs back after you press it. The cheap substitute crushes flat and stays flat, and plated wire leaves a little grey dust on your nail. Do this on the odhna border where nobody minds, and do it before you fall in love with the colour.

Ask the price plainly, in one sentence, before any discount talk starts. Ask whether the gota is asli chandi or plated. Ask what the poshak weighs. A shop that answers those three straight, with no story attached, is a shop you can deal with. If the number moves depending on how interested you look, walk out. There is another counter two lanes down. Our [price guide](/journal/rajputi-poshak-price-guide) sets out what the honest numbers look like.

## Coming to us

Jhotwara and Sanganer sit about forty minutes apart in Jaipur traffic and they carry different stock, so call ahead if you have a particular shade in mind. The fifteen reds are not all in one room. Our Jodhpur store on Link Road keeps its own following and posts separately at @abhaneri_jodhpur; if you are coming from the Pali or Nagaur side, that is your shorter drive.

And if you are in Kota or Surat or somewhere further, still uneasy about ordering a [bari poshak](/occasion/bari) you have never touched, say so on WhatsApp. We would rather post swatches and wait a week than have you nervous on the morning of the milni.

Questions, answered

Do you give Rajputi poshaks on rent near me?

No. We make to order, and the reason we do not rent comes down to the phere photographs. A rented bari poshak was cut for whoever wore it last, so the kanchli sits loose at the armhole or pulls across the back, and the ghaghra either sweeps the floor or shows an ankle. You notice it in every second frame once the album comes back. Renting makes good sense for a guest at a mehndi, for a shoot where the outfit is on you two hours, or for a child who will outgrow it by Teej. For the bride at her own saat phere, have it cut for her body.

I am not in Jaipur or Jodhpur. How do you take my measurements?

On a WhatsApp video call, and it takes about twenty minutes. Someone at your end holds the tape while our karigar watches and says where to place it. Nine measurements, one still photograph of the tape lying at your waist so we can see it is snug and not sagging, and the height of the mojari or heel you plan to wear under the ghaghra. Evening calls are easiest for us. Use a tailor's tape, the soft kind a darzi uses, not a thread and not a phone app.

What if the poshak does not fit when it reaches me?

Message the same WhatsApp number and send two photographs, front and side, standing straight. Every kanchli leaves our adda with margin folded into the side seams, so a tailor near you can take it in an inch without going anywhere near the gota, and we will tell you which seam to open. If the trouble is ghaghra length or the armhole, post it back to Jhotwara and it comes back altered. Nobody should be putting a scissor to the odhni ki kor.

Do you have a showroom in Delhi, Udaipur or Bikaner?

No. Three counters only, two in Jaipur and one in Jodhpur. What we do for out-of-town brides is post swatches first, so you can see the red in your own light and rub the gota between your fingers before anything is cut. After that it is video for the measurements and video again for the fitting. Ask the concierge for swatches early, because that week of courier is the week people forget to budget for.

Is a poshak from a shop near me cheaper than ordering from Jaipur?

Sometimes, and it is worth asking why. Real silver costs what silver costs, so a bari poshak priced at Rs 12,000 has plated wire on it, and plated wire goes dull by the second wearing. Our published bari poshaks presently run Rs 20,400 to Rs 94,500, and the distance between those two numbers is the count of kalis, the weight of tari and danka work, and how much asli chandi sits on the odhna. Run our price calculator before you walk into any shop so you know roughly what you should be paying.

Do I need an appointment to visit the store?

Not for browsing. Come any day between 10 and 8. If you are coming specifically for a bari poshak, send a message to that store's number a day earlier so the pieces are out of their boxes and a karigar is free to talk through the work. Jhotwara is quiet on weekday mornings. Saturdays, expect to wait a little.

How long before the wedding should I order?

Two and a half to three months is comfortable. The build itself runs about 38 days, and after that you want room for one alteration and for the jewellery, borla and rakhdi and aad and bajuband, to be matched against the real odhna rather than a photograph of it. Brides who reach us six weeks out usually choose from what is already finished, which is a perfectly good outcome, only a smaller one.
